Sid Poole (Year Elected - 2014)

A native of Scarborough and a life-long member of the cricket club, Sid moved to London following his time at Leeds University and a spell teaching in Guildford.  He joined the civil service, where he remained for the rest of his working life.  Like so many of his fellow MCCL umpires, Sid did not profess any particular talent at cricket and, when he arrived in London, he joined North London Cricket Club where he has remained a member ever since.

In 1974 he took up umpiring with his club and in 1981 he joined the new League Panel.  Over the succeeding three decades he went from strength to strength being on the County 2nd XI Panel, umpiring the 2000 National Club Final at Lord’s (replayed at Southgate CC after torrential rain caused an abandonment at Lord’s), the 1999 Evening Standard Challenge Trophy Final between Teddington  CC and Bexley CC, two National County Board Finals and several Middlesex Cup finals.
