Richard Johns (Year Elected - 2015)

A product of Highgate School, Richard started his cricketing life at Woodside Park CC until its demise.  He moved down the road to Finchley where he was a member of the 2nd XI which won the 1978 League Championship.

The following year, and for the rest of his playing career, Richard was in the 1st XI where he won six League titles (three of those as captain) and five Middlesex Cups (three as captain).  In addition he also captained Finchley to victories in the 1993 Evening Standard Challenge Trophy and the 1991 Bertie Joel Cup.  In 1982 he was a member of the losing National Club Final side at Lord’s.  His five seasons as Finchley skipper saw his record as follows: 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st and 2nd.  In his own words, having failed by three points to retain the title for a – then – unprecedented fourth straight year, he had no choice but to fall on his sword!

For five years Richard was a member of the League Committee before succeeding Bob Baxter as Treasurer in 1998; a post he was to hold for the next 17 years.  During his tenure, the League’s accounts grew annually to a very healthy figure and he left behind an organisation in a strong position.
