Jon Munday (Year Elected - 2016)
A life-long North Middlesex player, he started out as a 16 year-old fielder in the 1st XI. He became Vice-Captain in 1968 and Captain in 1975/6 and 1981. He had to step down when he opened his sports shop and was required to work on Saturdays. He continued to play for the club in the late 80s and 90s. He managed the sports division at the Lord’s Shop from 2001 to 2009 in a full-time capacity and then on a part-time basis for a further seven years.
It was in the 1980s that he performed his greatest service for the MCCL when he organised and then re-organised the 3rd XI Championship. Initially eight clubs (out of sixteen) competed and Jon’s crowning achievement was to persuade the League Committee to make it compulsory for all clubs to run and to enter the 3rd XI. Jon is still to be found watching North Middlesex at weekends.
