David Bloomfield (2003)

David began playing for Brentham CC in 1957 and was appointed 1st XI Captain from 1970 to 1972 and again in 1979 and 1980. He was vice-captain of the 1962 Brentham team which lost to Beddington in the original Evening Standard North and South of Thames Tournament which pitted the most successful sides from, as the name implies, either side of the river. In the days before organised League cricket, the newspaper kept a weekly record of the major clubs performances against each other to produce a one-off match.

David captained the side which narrowly lost the 1971 National Club Final against Scarborough at Lord’s. Sadly, that was to be the closest Brentham have ever come to a trophy since.

He was an original Committee Member when the MCCL was founded in 1970 (hostilities began in 1972) and Hon. Secretary from 1976 to 1979; in 1979 he took over the reins of Chairman from Terrence Woram for the next five years. Since then David has attended virtually all the League AGMs and EGMs.
