Charlie Puckett (Year Elected - 2017)

Charlie joined the League Panel in 1982 and umpired his last match (to date) in 2020.  He toured Australia & New Zealand (1979), Sri Lanka (1981) and Oman (2012) with the Club Cricket Conference and also took part in several MCC tours.  A former Minor Counties and County 2nd XI umpire he also umpired the 1989 National Village and the 2003 National Club Finals, both at Lord’s.

When Nick Demery stood down as League Secretary in 1999 there was no obvious candidate and Charlie agreed with Nick he would stand as Secretary until a replacement could be found: it took 18 seasons!

During that period the constitution underwent two radical re-writes – two sides of double-spaced foolscap could no longer contain the Young (and Old) Turks now to be found throughout the competition!  It was also during this period that we found it necessary to have a formal (and lengthy) discipline code; up to then it had all been agreed in off the record chats between the officers and clubs involved.
